This book was recommended to me by a 1st grade teacher and was read to the kids on the first day. I gave them each a jar to place a marble in each time they filled some ones' or their own bucket. One of the first things I do each day is ask them what they did to fill some ones bucket the day before and they put a marble in for each deed approved by me. I have witnessed positive behavior changes in them. They sometimes do things they don't really enjoy doing to just an act of kindness. The other day we visited their great grandmother and they each got a marble for filling her bucket. Today Taylor took out the composte even though she really didn't want to. I let them get marbles for unexpected chores such as helping shell the peas, sweeping the floor, and so on. They excitedly count all their marbles each day and announce proudly how many they have!! |
